Hit the Target
Imagine that you’re standing in front of a dartboard. Your eyes are covered, and you’re merely throwing darts. While you have an idea as to the board’s location, you don’t have a clear goal.
Although success is hard to find, luck is on your side from time to time. You occasionally hit the mark, but you miss your target far more times than not. Coincidence doesn’t translate into consistency.
If you hope to increase your odds, you need to rely on more than just chance. Without a plan, it’s virtually impossible to know if you’re shooting in the right direction. Clarity will allow you to pursue goals with intention.
In the game of darts, points are earned based on proximity to the goal. The closer you are to the target, the higher the score. Success isn’t hit or miss. The outcome is determined by the overall result.
In the game of life, darts fly. Aim is off. All will miss the mark. How do you set yourself up to hit the target more times than not?
Without a plan, you may find yourself chasing goals that don’t connect to your vision. And you may get so caught up in the pursuit that you fail to live with intention.
It isn’t always possible to know the when, but it helps to understand the why, what and how. This will allow you to construct a plan that lines up with your overall objective.
If in doubt, it may help to ask yourself the following questions:
What goals would I like to accomplish?
What makes these goals important to me?
What’s the “why” behind why I started?
How will I turn my vision into action?
It's possible to aim for the target yet completely miss the mark. Don’t chase goals. Pursue purpose.
Purpose keeps you going when all else tells you to quit. Stay focused on why you started. Create a plan, and work your plan with intention.
