Stay in the Game

At times life throws curveballs when we think we’re about to hit a home run. Discouragement quickly sets in. We’re tempted to step off the field, and we lose the will to try again.

Everyone steps up to the plate with the hope of hitting it out of the park. Yet very few hit a home run. Some make it to third base, while even more make it to second and first. None start with a guarantee of success.

If players were to step off the field every time a challenge comes, the game would never begin. On the other hand, players must step on the field with certainty that they will win. After all, determination and a winning attitude are what drive success.

Highs and lows are what make a sport competitive. Wins and losses are what make it a game. Accepting both with grace is what makes a player great.

Winners are able to adapt and adjust to changing circumstances. They don’t just train to win. They prepare to handle anything that comes their way. This gives them the will to push through ups and downs. Regardless of the outcome, they stay in the game.

If the end result is less than successful, champions strategize about what they could have done differently. Then, they come up with a plan to ensure that they do better the next time. And no matter how bad the loss, they get back on the field again.

If life throws a curveball, don’t step off the field. Handle it with grace. Adapt to changing circumstances. Adjust your mindset. And above all else, stay in the game. Don’t let today’s challenge steal tomorrow’s vision. Hold on to hope.
